If you knew you had the wrong map, would you still try to use it?
Well, that is how we live today. We are navigating our lives using the wrong map.
Before you can set a course for your life, you need to know what is true. But we don’t. So how should a person decide how to live and what to live for?
Should you trust the wisdom of others? In science maybe. . .or religion? While science has shaped the modern world, it is incapable of even grasping our most pressing questions; and though religious visionaries may have touched God, their insights have been buried by doctrine.
Why not just trust ourselves? We are constrained by limited senses and faulty mental wiring. We are imprinted with the values and biases of our societies. We can understand neither the world nor our place in it. We are incapable.
Our perspectives are so brief, whereas the story of humanity is long, perhaps eternal. In this flicker of a lifetime, we can’t fathom the movements and evolution of humanity, as they occur so slowly over the centuries. And the story of humanity is the real story.
Much of what you have assumed to be true is not. So, what would happen if we replaced one of your false assumptions with a truth that seems so obvious, but is hiding in plain sight? Your entire perspective would change. In fact, the entire trajectory of human history would change.
That is why you must read these essays. Look beyond the common misunderstanding. And learn your place in the world.
